INTRODUCTION
Since 2008, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science has been running a mentoring program for all students aimed at helping students to learn in a more comfortable environment.
Who is a mentor?
A mentor is a Parvatibai Chowgule College faculty member. A mentor supports and encourages a student in his/her academic and personal growth. A mentor facilitates personal and professional growth of an individual through their own experience.
Who is a mentee?
A mentee is a student who is assigned to a mentor. He/she will ask for guidance whenever academic questions or issues arise. The mentee is expected to meet the mentor at least twice in a month.
What is the mentoring process in Parvatibai Chowgule College?
Mentoring process is a face-to-face interaction in which a faculty member provides guidance to a student. The mentoring process requires that the mentor and mentee work together to reach specific goals and to provide each other with sufficient feedback to ensure that the goals are reached. The mentoring relationship is formed outside of regular classroom activity. The mentors if needed shall direct the mentees to other support services. For example, if a mentee who is working on a project shares that they need help in writing, the mentor may direct them to the Writing Centre, or if the mentee is having any difficulty or confusion about career or personal life, they may be directed to the Career and Personal Counselling Centre. Since the college believes in heterogeneity, the mentees are provided with mentors who are from different subject fields . The interaction between the mentor and mentee touches upon different topics, and there is give and take of knowledge/information. Mentors discuss the mentees performance in various assessments, completion of credits and about any other academic issues faced by them. The mentors also keep a track of the targets set by the mentees. Target setting is a process in which each mentor and the mentee sit together to discuss the expected goals to be achieved in each course and draw a study plan for the same. Target setting helps the mentee to review themselves on time spent on each course and the resulting outcome, and lead them to improve their scores. This process in turn helps the students to successfully make a study plan. Mentoring During the Pandemic The pandemic necessitated that mentoring takes place in an online mode with homogenous group of students. Faculty from within the department divided the students amongst themselves. Meetings were conducted through g-meet and students who could/did not attend the meet were contacted through various means like phone call, WhatsApp, telegram and emails. Mentors helped students resolve issues/queries pertaining to college by providing necessary information.

REPORT 2020-21
Mentoring Committee Report 2020-21 Mentoring of students is an integral part of our educational system; it aims in providing guidance and support. Mentors play a key role in the college as they help the mentees deal with academic difficulties faced by them thereby helping them complete their credits in a smooth manner. In order to incorporate the mentoring system in campus mentor mentee meets are held every semester to bring about the best potentials in our students. The pandemic necessitated that mentoring take place in an online mode with homogenous group of students. The mentoring committee prepared guidelines for the mentor mentee meet by penning down objectives of the mentoring program in Parvatibai Chowgule College. An initiative taken by the Mentoring committee this year was to address the queries of mentees presented by the mentors in their report to the committee. The committee members sought information from respective authorities and shared the same with all the mentors. Following is the detailed report for the academic year 2020-2021of the mentoring committee along with the mentor mentee meets held thrice during the year - one in the odd semester (Nov 2020) and two in the even semester (Feb and May 2021). Mentor Mentee Meeting.
Student welfare encompasses services that promote the physical, mental and social wellbeing of students. The services advance the balanced growth and development of the young, foster a culture of caring and positive interaction in the college community, and ensure equal learning opportunities for all. As learning communities, we believe that educational institutes must be concerned for the well-being of young people for whom they are responsible.Student welfare is therefore a basic aspect of the work of all involved in education. To guide individual development in the social context within and beyond the college is a major aim of education. Student welfare Committee provides basic services and programs that guarantee relevant, efficient and effective support and assistance to the well-being of all students. The purpose of the Student Welfare committee is to promote student welfare, advice and support. We achieve this by campaigning on various welfare issues, as well as by working with student-led services. The Committee recommends Scholarships and other student welfare activities. A prestigious Hira Wagh award is selected by the committee by recognition and evaluation of meritorious all round student of the college. At present College gives Scholarships from Government student aid fund, Blue Cross Laboratories Scholarship and Margao Higher Education Society Scholarship funded by Mr. Dilip Kare.
