Specialized Research Labs
As research is the key focus of this institute, management of the college introduced specialized research laboratories such as Geographical information services Lab (GIS), Photogrammetry Lab, Human Genetic Research lab, Plant Physiology lab and Analytical Lab. Besides these, the college harbors well equipped library and a wi-fi campus.
Geographical Information Services Lab (GIS)
GIS Lab has 20 computers with 17 inches LCD monitors loaded with GIS software ArcView 10, ArcGIS Master Lab kit, software for image processing like ENVI 4.6 and IDL for modeling. In addition all computers have programming facilities like C, C++, Visual Basic 6.0, and graphical facilities like AutoCAD. The Geoinformatics Lab is a good asset for research to store, manage, retrieve and represent in digital and iconic modes.
Photogrammetry Lab
10 computers, 10 sets of Mirror Stereoscopes and Pocket stereoscopes and more than 100 sets of Anaglyph 3D; 50 aerial photographs; 20 sets of multispectral satellite data. Lab instruments at GIS and photogrammetry lab include Max-Min Thermometer, Barograph, Rain Gauge, Aneroid Barometer, Wet & Dry bulb thermometer, Humidity and Temperature recorder and Wind wane. Automatic Weather Station - Automatic Weather Station installed by ISRO in the college premises provides access to climatic data. Field and Navigation Instruments include GPS Garmin Map 76CSx, GPS Oregon 550, GPS Etrex Vista HCx, GPS Montana 650, Brunton Compass and Tangent Clinometer Survey Instrumentsincude Prismatic Compass, Transit Theodolite, Chain set, Chain and Tape Survey set, Plain Table survey set as per SOI pattern, SIS Telescopic Alidade, Land Measuring chain (30 meters), Levo Tape with built in spirit level, Measuring Tapes (50m, 30m and 15m), DGPS Leica GS09: L1/ E1-L2 Dual Frequency GPS and GLONASS, 25 Km Baseline length, post-processing and realtime kinematic(radio frequency 438MHz) range upto 25 Km having accuracy of 1 - 5mm. consultancy projects are carried out at these labs.
Human Genetic Research Lab (CHGRL)
The research at CHGRL is focused on genetic disorders in humans, DNA damage and repair studies, genetic toxicity studies, and epidemiological studies. The lab has world class infrastructure for Genetic diagnosis and offers internships and trainings in the field of Human genetics, digital Karyotyping, Comet assays, cell culture techniques, cytogenetic techniques. The CHGRL offers summer trainings to interested students in the field of Human genetics, use of Software in Human Karyotyping, Comet assays, cell culture techniques, cytogenetic techniques for prenatal diagnosis etc. CHGRL also offers Post Graduate Diploma course in Clinical Genetics and Medical Lab techniques (PGDCGMLT).
Plant Physiology Research Lab
is equipped with all basic facilities in Plant Science Research. Lab also has facility for growing plants under controlled conditions. The equipments available are PCR, rotary vacuum evaporator, UV spectrophotometer and chlorophyll flurometer.
Environmental Lab
Environmental Research Laboratory, is the latest addition to the research labs in the institute. It would be a full-time research-oriented laboratory that tests and assess both biotic (flora and fauna) and abiotic (soil, water, and air) components from the environment as well as from sources disposing into the environment (industries, domestic and agriculture sources, etc.). The laboratory shall maintain sufficient analytical and support instruments/ equipment to conduct required analytical operations since modern analytical laboratory depends heavily upon instrumentation.
Faculty Research Projects
Research projects are undertaken by faculty funded by various funding bodies. Research findings are presented or published in reputed journals. We have received research grants for 06 Major research projects and 26 minor research projects from UGC, DST, SERB and ICSSR. Through the research work of our faculty and students we aim at addressing social issues, environmental issues and contribute to improvising human heath in general. To encourage projects, the RCEA-PCCAS has prepared policy documents on Research funding bodies and organizes workshops regularly on 'Project proposal writing', Research Methodologies etc. The RCEA-PCCAS also initiated 'Research Discussion Forum' (RDF), for encouraging interdisciplinary/interdepartmental research projects and consultancy activities.
